States are Exporting Taxes More

The non-partisan Tax Foundation has calculated the tax burdens of the citizens of each state while adjusting for the fact that many state taxes are exported to residents of other states.

A good example of this is Alaska, which charges a "severance tax" for oil extraction that is paid by consumers in other states.  Many states have turned to this tax exporting strategy in a bid to increase revenues without placing additional tax burdens on their own citizens.
