The U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Global Intellectual Property Center, a CSG Associate, has issued holiday shopping tips for consumers. Through its Dangerous Fakes campaign, the center is issuing consumer alert tips to empower holiday shoppers to make smart decisions and avoid counterfeits. The center suggests 10 tips to avoid dangerous fakes.

The U.S. military discharges 160,000 active service members and 110,000 Reserve and National Guard members each year, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. About 32,000 of those veterans will join the ranks of nearly 1 million veterans already unemployed. For young, male veterans—ages 18-24—the picture is even bleaker: In 2011, one out of every three was looking for work, almost double the unemployment rate of their non-veteran peers. In response, employers are finding ways to match veterans with employment opportunities, and many of The Council of State Governments’ Associate members are working to hire veterans.

When Molina Healthcare of Michigan noticed the poor immunization rates in the state’s children, it took action. The company, a leading health care provider for financially vulnerable families, launched “Shots for Shorties” to improve the rates of immunization among African-American children, primarily those from low-income families. The program offers a variety of necessary vaccinations, programs and educational materials full of strategies to increase immunization rates for African-Americans. 

For the second year in a row, Toyota has conducted its philanthropic program, “100 Cars for Good” social media initiative. The initiative awards 100 new vehicles to 100 nonprofit organizations across the United States in 100 days.
