State Policies: STD, HIV and Teen Pregnancy Prevention
It is estimated over a million people in the United States, and almost 40 million people worldwide are currently living with HIV. These alarming statistics and how quickly the virus continues to spread worldwide have pushed HIV and AIDS to the top of the list of healthcare priorities in the United States. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention there are also over 15 million cases of sexually transmitted disease cases reported annually. Adolescents and young adults (15-24) are the age groups at the greatest risk for acquiring an STD, with 3 million becoming infected each year.
