CSG Justice Center Briefs Congressional Staff on Reentry and Recidivism

On November 4th, the Council of State Governments Justice Center held a congressional staff briefing to highlight the work being done nationwide to reduce recidivism. Experts from the CSG Justice Center, the Urban Institute, and the U.S. Department of Justice discussed the growing body of research identifying practices effective in reducing recidivism.

Speakers updated attendees on the Second Chance Act, which passed with bipartisan support in 2008 and provides resources to state and local governments for reentry and recidivism reduction strategies. The briefing also highlighted the interest of the business community in prisoner reentry initiatives with speaker Dave Holland, National Accounts Director for Meineke Car Care Center, who discussed Meineke’s vocational training programs.
