Diabetes: From Treatment to Prevention

This session sought to explain diabetes and the disease’s burden on individuals, society, and the health care system and to demonstrate effective state policies to prevent and treat people affected by diabetes and diabetes-related complications. Attendees learned about the state of science around prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the disease. We also discussed new policy initiatives that apply a public health template to diabetes. Successful state policy initiatives were presented by sponsoring legislators and supporting advocates.

A Commitment to Public Policy

Rep. Mike Tryon
Rep. Mike Tyron has been a member of the Illinois House of Representatives since his election in November 2004. His government service began in 1989 when he was elected to the McHenry County Board. Tryon began his career working for the McHenry County Public Health Department. After a job as an environmental consultant, he bought an environmental consulting firm and then formed McHenry Analytical, a water and wastewater testing firm.  Rep. Tyron was born in Indiana and graduated from Indiana State University. He is married and has three children.
