Capitol Comments

The Council of State Governments recently hosted the 2012 National Leadership Conference from May 17-20 in La Quinta, California.  The meeting provided state leaders with a robust agenda designed to tackle some of the most pressing issues facing state governments.   Topics covered included pension reform, diabetes treatment and prevention, education funding, the future of transportation funding and high-speed rail, health care reform, siting renewable energy projects, internet taxation, and America's forgotten border with the Caribbean.  

At the recently concluded National Leadership Conference held in La Quinta, California, the CSG Executive Committee approved eight policy resolutions on a wide range of topics, including export promotion, preventing Medicaid fraud, exploring a telehealth interstate compact, state sales taxation on e-commerce, and the Mercury and Air Toxics Standards rule.
 

For the last three weeks, CSG has been fortunate to host Dr. Sothea Chrin as a professional legislative fellow. He currently serves as the Undersecretary of State / Assistant to H.E. Ms. Khuon Sudary, who is the Second Vice President of the Cambodian National Assembly.   He has been in Lexington, Kentucky as part of the University of Kentucky Martin School's Professional Fellows program.  Here is his report on his time here at CSG:

Advancing Government Accountability (AGA) is pleased to announce its latest new audio conference on improving government performance and processes.

Today the Association of Government Accountants (AGA) released a new online resource designed to help officials at all levels of government to prevent, detect and deter fraud. The ToolKit is a valuable tool to help promote program integrity at all levels of government.
